On a visit to India, faculties of the University of British Columbia (UBC) conducted a workshop at Forest Research Institute (Deemed to be University), Dehradun on 14th May, 2018.
The faculties were welcomed by Dr. Savita, Director, FRI & Vice-Chancellor, Forest Research Institute (Deemed to be University), Dehradun (FRIDU) and Dr. H.S. Ginwal, Dean (A), FRIDU. The Director gave a brief introduction about the establishment, mission, objectives and structure of FRI. She also briefed about FRIDU, the students and Ph.D scholars of FRIDU. After the welcome ceremony, the faculties visited world renowned Xylarium of FRI.
Later on, Dr. H.S. Ginwal, Dean (A), FRIDU and his team coordinated the workshop in FRIDU. He briefed about FRIDU and its academic curriculum. During the workshop, Jennifer Heron, Invertebrate Conservation Specialist at Ministry of Environment & Climate Change Strategy, British Columbia talked on species at risk assessment and recovery planning in Canada, with an emphasis on British Columbia at the provincial level. Elizabeth Bowker, Lecturer at Sauder School of Business, UBC delivered a talk on presentation skills, persuasion and proposal writing. Thereafter, Robert Jackes, Lecturer at Sauder School of Business, UBC shared his knowledge on project budgeting, costing and analysis. He discussed basics of planning and executing a research project from a financial perspective and understanding financial information. Due to the kind response, interaction and shared knowledge by the faculties of UBC, the event was successful. We acknowledge the same and hoping such fruitful events again in the near future.
